Top 5 Android Antivirus Applications

1

There are many people that are surprised when you tell them that their Android phones are in danger of picking up a virus just like a computer. It is only when you start to explain that all phones have an operating system on them that people realise this makes sense. Essentially mobile phones are now laptops in their very smallest form. Here, we will explore the top five antivirus applications for Android.

Is There A Danger?

Yes, the danger of viruses on phones is very real. A lot of viruses are specifically focused on phones More >

Tower Defense

Top 10 Tower Defense Games for Android

0

The tower defense genre – where you defend a home base or other objective from hordes of invading foes – has proved very popular on smartphones. The combination of pick-up, put-down casual gameplay, along with some quite detailed strategies and impressive graphics, particularly for games optimised for a smaller screen and slower processor than most contemporary digital games, is a winning one. We take a look at the ten must-have, or at least, must-try-free-version-of, tower defense games for Android.

App review: Finally a Facebook app for Android that works!

0

You know, I can be the person who constantly bitches about an app when it just doesn’t work. This was the case with the previous range of Facebook apps for Android, they were pretty crappy. Slow loading times, very bad responsiveness to finger actions and so annoying to check out photos and like or comment on them

Well, let me just say, when you do something right, I am the first one to complement you. So to Facebook: “Well done on your latest update for the Android app!” I just downloaded it this morning and were amazed that most things are improved More >

Discussion: Ice Cream Sandwich; what’s your favorite feature at first glance?

3

So we all saw the new unveiling of Google’s Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Or read about it later when you were in the wrong time zone. Lots of new features were presented, what’s your favorite? Is is the face recognition unlock function? The new visuals? The new launcher? Notification bar? Camera app? Redesigned core-apps?…..I’ll leave it up to you in the comments!

Google-Docs

Google, we need Docs on our tablet!

2

A couple of weeks ago my girlfriend bought the ASUS EeePad Transformer, which is a great little piece of tech, for a great price. But that aside, it turns out that it is not yet the laptop replacement that I imagined. This is largely due to the fact that is no easy task to sync documents between the slate and a desktop. Dropbox doesn’t work as well as on a desktop, mainly having troubles with re-synching and re-saving documents. Google Docs in the Honeycomb browser is not up to par with a document app like Polaris. However, the Google Docs More >

The iPhone 4S, the start of Apple’s downfall?

1

By now I trust you are all up to speed on the new(?) iPhone 4S that Apple announced on Tuesday. The much anticipated iPhone 5 turned out to be a misplaced expectation of the public. When looking at the ever evolving mobile market, people just expected something new from Apple this time. The iPhone 4 has been out for over a year now, in this time HTC or Samsung have released 2/3 high end smartphones. And Android Ice Cream Sandwich together with the next generation of Android phones is right around the corner. Apple really could not afford to just More >

Stop with the patent lawsuits already!

0

Recently, the mobile world has been rockin’ over many patent infringement cases, with Apple taking the lead in being the bully. Ok I have to admit, Apple’s suit against Samsung has some grounds because Samsung did obviously copy Apple designs with its Galaxy S line. However, the suit against HTC is really childish, addressing mostly very generic patents on mobile software like being able to select a phone number from a text message. Is it not the downfall of fair market competition when companies try and screw each other over on such generic implementations of mobile technologies? The real problem More >

Steve Jobs is a douche #2

0

Why does old Steven Jobs always tries to diss Apple’s competitors with stupid remarks and comments? I don’t know, but yesterday he did it again, at the keynote speech in which he presented the iPad 2. There were two of these remarks actually, one concerning Honeycomb apps and one concerning sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The first blunder Steve made was a painfull misquote of a Samsung executive about the Galaxy Tab, see the image for the slide from the Apple presentation.

If Stevey had payed attention to many blogs in the last month, then he would have More >

Vanilla Android ROMs need better power toggle options

0

An action which I do quite a lot on my Android phone is toggle the power settings; switching WiFi on and off, changing screen brightness, disabling mobile network network connections or switching GPS on and off. In the stock Vanilla Android ROMs, this can either be done from the settings menu or with the Power Control Widget which can be placed on a homescreen. However, this means that I always need to get to a certain homescreen to toggle these options, while I mostly want to do them while I am already in an app. This means I need to More >

The HTC Flyer: the stylus and back, and how!

0

Last week at MWC, HTC presented their take on an Android tablet, called the HTC Flyer. The Flyer is a 7 inch slate with a1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 1024×600 pixels capacitive multitouch display, 1 GB of RAM and camera’s on the font and back. All in all this does not sound that incredible or differentiating from any other tablets out there. Especially when I heard that this will first launch with Android 2.3 instead of the all new tablet specific Honeycomb.

However, all these specs aside, HTC has made the Flyer into something unique on More >
